Okay so as a true SATC fan here is my critique as i also saw it twice so far...

1. The Fashion

For all of those who were irritated at the fashion they missed the whole point of the movie!

Throughout the movie there is a struggle about being label obsessed...The label obsession causes Big to reject Carrie first calling him her boyfriend when they were getting "Heaven on 5th". Then getting married is another label. Her trying to get married in a label-less suit, led to the Vivienne Westwood dress. Indulging in label obsession did not lead to her happiness...even the label of their "penthouse" apartment on 5th ave. did not make them happy. In the end Carrie discusses not wanting to "label" people and the dangers of it, and in the end gets married in the label-less suit. (The purpose of the Manolo's at the wedding seems important, however, to continue the Cinderella story running through the plot)

My problem with the fashion

The expectations of fashion was extremely high in this film...Did Patricia Fields deliver? ummm she did...The Zac Posen bridesmaids dresses! FABULOUS! The Vogue Shoot, completely inspiring! Carrie in the Alexander McQueen dress at dinner in Mexico, a true highlight, although the dress is very widely known by now.

The flaws in the fashion were in the over the top efforts... Why was Carrie asking Samantha to be her maid of honor in Diane Von Furstenburg? What character ever wore DVF in the series??? It seemed off...only Samantha ever seemed to wear a wrap dress (while i know DVF makes other things). Also the Vivienne Westwood fashion show at Bryant Park? Was I the only one that felt that fashion was too literal in that scene? Overall too too much product placement and advertising! Bag Borrow or Steal? Let's not promote that okay SATC?

Next... Carrie's writing

Now I know that Carrie was supposed to be writing a book and everything, and was experiencing writer's block due to Big, but come on! Her writing was one of the BEST, and most honest parts of the show, making the audience consider the applicability to their own life and friends. Those reflections were my favorite part of the show...her not writing more in this movie disappointed me.

Where was NYC?

Maybe because I don't live there my critique might be off, but where was NYC in this film?
Did we learn any new hot spots? I feel like the city was simply a backdrop and not a character...

Okay, i will stop venting!

The dress in the beginning sequence of the movie is actually a replica (if not the original) dress she wore in one of the episodes of sex and the city (once I go back and weed through to get the exact name of it, i'll post back.)

I think that it appeared to be quite difficult for each of the actresses to fully "find" their former characters and at times they seemed as if they were "pushing" too much. EXCEPT FOR CHARLOTTE--she gave me the true feeling of Charlotte from the television series.

J Hudson was just thrown in there for "diversity's sake" but I mean why force diversity when it wasn't an issue in the series?

I must see it again--probably on Friday since I'm over the initial shock of the movie.

I wished that they'd never leaked that Charlotte was going to become pregnant because I would have LOVED to discover that in the movie!

One more thing---BIG HAD TO PULL A "BIG" type of move by standing her up---i think EVERY TRUE FAN had a feeling in their GUT, just as Carrie did, that HE WOULD PULL SOMETHING LIKE THAT.. and I was rather glad that he did for the sake of the movie.

I agree with the writer. The comment on J. Hudson is right on target. The fashion was phenomenal, and the ending predictable.
I have loved SATC since its beginnings...close friendships, fashion, and relatively hilarious story lines.
I was neither disappointed nor completely satisfied with the movie version of SATC.

Personally, i agree with your "Big". This movie was lacking as compared to the show. Sure the wardrobe was amazing, but I went to the movie to enjoy the movie, not just the fashion. I could have watched it on mute for that. I wanted to feel emcompassed by everything and I just wasn't. If the writers weren't ready to make that half hour show 2 and a half hours and make it just as good, then they should have waited and thought longer and harder.

P.S.- How did Carrie get her phone back after the wedding? Who found it? Why did they ignore the million calls by Big? Writers?!!?!!
